An invitation to visit an environment where children thrive!

Open Days at Brighton Steiner School on
Saturday 19th November 11am -1pm

This open day is recommended for parents who have either little or no knowledge of Steiner education or for those who are interested in increasing their knowledge generally. The tour will start with a talk on the education followed by a guided tour of the school, visiting classes and having questions answered throughout, which gives the opportunity to witness the education as it unfolds and to discover the reality of Steiner Waldorf education. The talks will be tailored to fit the age range of families attending. The school extends a warm invitation and welcome to all interested individuals to attend. Please book through reception on 01273 386300.

Notes for Editors
Steiner Education provides a tried and tested alternative to the mainstream: there are now 1000 Steiner Schools worldwide that follow their own international Steiner-Waldorf Curriculum.

Steiner Schools offer a whole-hearted approach to education where the aim is to guide each child on their path to adulthood to achieve their highest human potential. Each child is respected as an individual; for who they are, not just for what they can do. Upper school pupils do take GCSEs alongside the Steiner Curriculum in order to progress to tertiary education but there is no culture of testing or streaming and no SATs. Recognising personal achievement across the intellectual, creative and social realms encourages endeavour in all of these areas and develops confident, socially-skilled, creative thinkers.

The Steiner Curriculum differs from the mainstream in a number of ways. Children attend Kindergarten from age 4 to age 6, where the emphasis is on learning through play and establishing sound social skills. Formal academic learning starts a little later, at age 7, when children enter the Main School. Here they stay with the same Class Teacher until age 14, building a strong relationship of trust and respect. All pupils learn all subjects, regardless of their ability, as all subjects have intrinsic value to the child, and contribute to a well-rounded education. Languages, music, art, handcrafts and games lessons sit alongside a broad range of academic subjects and are integral to the Steiner Curriculum. At age 14, pupils enter the Upper School and are taught by specialist subject teachers for both the GCSE and Steiner Curriculum. The Class Guardian supports the transition from being a student to being active in the world. The Steiner Curriculum and teaching methods are all aids to the student’s increasing self-awareness, confidence, sense of belonging and understanding of the necessary balance between freedom and responsibility.
